Hydraulic Modeling

Water infrastructure decisions, whether for a single irrigation outlet or a river basin flood defense system, carry consequences that last for decades. Blue Green Nexus approaches every such decision through simulation and modeling first, construction second. Our hydraulic and hydrological modeling practice sits at the center of a broader engineering service that spans feasibility studies, design, and development of hydraulic structures, surface and pressurized irrigation systems, drainage infrastructure, and urban and rural water supply and sanitation networks. 

Our modeling work is built on the integration of satellite and in situ data with GIS platforms and established simulation software, allowing our engineers to represent hydraulic and hydrological systems with a level of fidelity that supports confident design decisions. This capability extends to flood modeling and flood risk assessment, where we translate hydrological inputs into practical mitigation proposals for infrastructure exposed to riverine flooding, and to groundwater recharge and rainfall harvesting schemes, where subsurface behavior must be understood before any structure is built. In each case, the model is not an academic exercise, but a working tool that informs the size, location, and operating rules of the physical infrastructure that follows. 

Modeling is only as reliable as the data feeding it, which is why Blue Green Nexus has invested specifically in hydro informatics and telemetry. Our teams design and install automated, near real time water and weather data acquisition systems, covering sensor selection, sourcing, calibration and field testing, datalogger and communication device deployment, site selection for telemetry ancillary infrastructure, and the back-end automation, database development, and reporting systems that turn raw sensor output into usable information. This end-to-end capability, from a single gauge installed on a riverbank to the analytical model that uses its data, is uncommon in the regional market and is a principal reason clients return to Blue Green Nexus for successive phases of work. 

Beyond direct implementation, Blue Green Nexus provides technical consulting and advisory services covering climate change impact analysis, natural resources management, environmental and social impact assessment, and feasibility and design work for water infrastructure. We also deliver capacity building programs in hydraulic and hydrological simulation software, GIS applications including Google Earth Engine, and hydro informatics, equipping client institutions to sustain and extend the systems we help establish.
