Hydrology and Flood Modelling for Recharge Pakistan
Blue Green Nexus satisfactorily delivered a hydrology and flood modelling assignment in support of the Recharge Pakistan initiative, working with WWF Pakistan as client and the Green Climate Fund as the financing donor, in partnership with En Em Associates of Islamabad. The project responds to a recurring national challenge, the combination of destructive monsoon flooding and chronic groundwater depletion, by examining how floodwater that currently causes damage downstream can instead be captured and directed toward aquifer recharge. The assignment requires detailed hydrological analysis of contributing catchments together with flood modelling that identifies where managed inundation and recharge interventions can be sited for maximum benefit.
Blue Green Nexus is contributing its hydraulic and hydrological modeling expertise to translate catchment data into actionable recharge site proposals, working alongside partner firm En Em Associates to align technical outputs with the broader Recharge Pakistan program design. The project reflects the company’s positioning at the intersection of flood risk management and groundwater sustainability, two challenges that are frequently addressed separately in Pakistan despite being fundamentally linked. By demonstrating that flood modelling can serve groundwater objectives as well as flood mitigation objectives, this assignment supports a climate financing approach that the Green Climate Fund is seeking to scale across the Indus basin.
