Goat Farming & Herd Multiplication Initiative, Bhakkar
BGN initiated a goat farming and herd multiplication project in Bhakkar under its agricultural innovation and investment portfolio. The project focuses on rearing female goats exclusively, leveraging the natural reproductive cycle to multiply herd size under low-input arid conditions typical of the Thal region.
The initiative includes:
- Breed selection suited to Bhakkar’s climate
- Establishing a controlled management unit for feeding, watering, and health care
- A reproductive strategy targeting two offspring per goat per 8-month cycle
- Quarterly monitoring of herd performance and expenditure
- A structured financial model to forecast herd growth and future profitability
The project also establishes a replicable model for low-risk entry into livestock-based agribusiness, particularly suitable for arid and semi-arid regions of Pakistan. Findings from this pilot will guide scaling of the herd, investment decisions, and long-term commercialization pathways.
